The movie! I was too young to go see it in the theater when it first came out, but as soon as it came to video I watched it over, and over, and over. To this day I still watch it AT LEAST 4 or 5 times a year. That goes for the second movie too! I will never grow tired of watching these beautifully choreographed films, with talented actors, and beautiful, legendary horses!!! I give riding lessons, and to each new student, I give both The Black Stallion, and The Black Stallion Returns as a gift. I hope they find the same magic in it that I always have, and become inspired to love horses as much as Alec loves The Black! Elizabeth |

What generosity! Do you give the books or the movies, please? Smile, Malissa |

Thanks! I give the movies to them on their first lesson. Then every year we have a big Halloween party where we paint the horses. This past year I put the first book in their goodie bags. Elizabeth |

Before I read the books, it was definetily the movie that did it for me. When I was I think around six or seven I watched The Black Stallion, and was completely in love. Living in the city, I really didn't have a place to be around horses, other than riding once a week, so it was a dream come true to be able to watch the movie over and over, it was captivating and six or so years later, I still love it. |

My mom took me to see the movie when I was maybe two years old. I actually have some vague memories of seeing this giant black horse on the screen. I was a bit frightened of him because he was so big, wild and loud, but that didn't last. I love the Black! |

Re: Do remember what it was that made you fall in love with the Black Stallion?
It was the movie that got me started. I was still a young boy, and at that time going to the drive-in was a major event here in South Africa. I saw it with my parents (I was around 7 years old) and forced them to take me back to see the movie at least three more times that week!!! The books came later as I entered secondary school- and I just couldn't stop with them (until today)!!! That got me reading alot of other horse stories, and the closest for me is the Silver Brumy series by Elyne Mitchell. I once read a story in Isaac Asimov's book "Mutants" in which a racehorse foal is born who is exactly as the book title - a mutant: beautiful, strong, extremely fast and in the book, if I remember correctly, it says that a mutant passes on its characteristics to its get. That's exactly what The Black is to me: something totally unique & beyond compare, who passed that brilliance to all his get! I'll be watching the movie AGAIN tonight, hope you all do too!!! Regards Alwyn |

Hi Dalene I'm from JHB- not the right for alot of horses, but that doesn't change my love for horses (especially Arabs and Friesians). Where are you from? We can definitely have some exciting chats!!! |

Hi Alwyn, Northern Cape - Kalahari region. Farm near Olifantshoek, but work in Kathu and Kuruman. (Plat Afrikaanse boervrou met 'n voltydse beroep en 'n goeie lot perde.) For the sake of the rest, I'll keep posting in English further. Jo'burg - suppose you keep your horse/s in stables then? I do travel to PTA and JHB at times to go see my clients, but city life is just not for me. Recently saw some excellent American Saddlers on a plot in Midrand. African horse sickness hit you guys up there as well? Have now started my breeding programme with my Arab Stallion *Sidi Mac Master - mares are Quarter Horse X Boerperd cross - bred them like that purely for pleasure and farmwork. Good temprament, good height for low thorn bush field - actually a very versatile breed. Sold a mare 3 months ago - she is now in training for showjumping and doing good. What type horses do you own? |

Do remember what it was that made you fall in love with the Black Stallion?
Just the words "made you fall in love with the Black Stallion" ...they have my heart pounding. When? I couldn't tell you. At 28 years old, my memories are cluttered with sitting in my closet (the quietest place in a house with 4 older brothers) reading all of Walter Farley's books at least 4 times. My mom gave me her books...I couldn't tell you how old they are, but I am certain I have some originals. I couldn't say the first time I watched the movies...probably before I could talk. Oh, my poor poor brothers Hundreds upon thousands of times they put the old 'laser disks" in for me.
Ms. Reno, as silly and cliche as it may sound, what your husband was part of...it still moves my soul. In fact, I watched TBS just within the last week. I am 6 months from graduating veterinary school (I wonder where that passion came from and do to take a national veterinary exam in 2 weeks, and I'm plopped on the couch, tears streaming, watching "Alec and The Black".
My thanks could never be properly demonstrated. |

Kira, I know what you mean. The film is timeless and it was and still is my very favorite movie of all time. It inspired and moved alot of people in alot of different ways, even myself! It jump started my passion for horses and it inspired me as a young girl in what direction I wanted to take my studies after High School. Kelly is still very proud of the film and how much it is still enjoyed by people worldwide, even today. He is very happy to have had the chance to have been a part of something that was so moving and had, and still does, carry a positive and powerful message with audiences, even after all this time. Good luck to you on your studies! Best Wishes! |

I have to say the book but the movie made it full! Then the Black came to life. |
