Some things never grow old...

Hello Farley Family,
My name is Pat Swann and I am now officially 60 years old.
My husband and I have adopted three children from China, the youngest of whom is 8. I'm at my computer tonight as my 8 year old is reading The Black Stallion to me out loud. As I listen, I remember reading this book many years ago, and all the books that followed. I knew the books so well, almost by heart. I had my own horses, too. I remember that I wrote to Walter Farley once and he sent me a letter back. Not a form letter, but a real letter with references to things I had written in my letter, so I knew he'd read it. He also sent me a pin that was black and white. He would have smiled at my little one reading with such enthusiasm, eager to turn to the next page. Of course, I know that the Black wins the race but she is on pins and needles wondering how this is all going to turn out. I'm older now, but the Black is forever young.
